Learning locations
One of the characteristics and strengths of Swiss dual-track VET programmes is the close correlation between training content and the actual needs of the labour market. This is reflected in the three main learning locations, which each handle different portions of training content:
Host company
Apprenticeship training usually takes place in a company where apprentices learn practical technical skills. It may also take place in a host company network. In such cases, several companies offer portions of apprenticeship training together.
VET school
VET schools are responsible for the classroom instruction portion of VET programmes. This includes instruction in vocational subjects and instruction in language, communication and society (LCS).
Branch training centre
Branch training centres are responsible for the branch course portion of VET programmes. They seek to impart and teach basic knowledge that would otherwise not be covered in apprenticeship training at host companies or in classroom instruction at VET schools.
