Employment tribunal

The Confederation recommends that the cantons implement a simple, quick and (usually) free procedure to settle civil law disputes concerning working relationships, including apprenticeships. Cases concerning a disputed amount can be dealt with up to a maximum of CHF 30 000.

Nearly half the cantons (which are among the most important and in particular those in French-speaking Switzerland) have complied with this obligation by creating employment tribunals. The name of these courts may vary from one canton to another.

The court of jurisdiction may be the court of the plaintiff's place of residence or that of the location where the work or training is carried out. The plaintiff chooses the place of jurisdiction.
