VET school teacher
VET school teachers (different types: e.g. vocational school teachers, commercial school teachers, IT school teachers, trade school teachers) fall into the broad category of VET professionals. The Federal Vocational and Professional Education and Training Act (VPETA, SR 412.10) designates them as the persons responsible for the classroom instruction portion of VET programmes as well as for preparatory courses for the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate (FVB) examination. This glossary has voluntarily adopted a simplified designation. These people must be accredited to teach at upper-secondary level and must meet the following requisites:
a) have undergone tertiary-level training in vocational pedagogy;
b) have undergone specialised training confirmed by a tertiary-level qualification;
c) have six months of experience in a company.
VPETA differentiates between certification to teach specific vocational subjects and certification to teach language, communication and society (LCS) or subjects that require university-level studies.
Specific provisions apply to part-time teachers and physical education at VET schools.
