Trial period
The duration of the trial period is stipulated in the apprenticeship contract and must be less than one month or greater than three months. It is preferable to set the maximum duration of the trial period at the outset. The apprentice and the learner can thus ensure that their choice is the right one. If required and after discussing with the parties and obtaining approval from the cantonal authority, the trial period may exceptionally be extended to a maximum of six months.
The trial period starts when the VET programme begins. This provision also applies if the VET programme begins with a (long) period of classroom instruction.
During the trial period, the apprenticeship contract may be terminated by the parties provided seven days’ notice is given. The cantonal authority must be immediately informed of this termination in writing.
