Closure of the host company

If the host company has to close, the VET trainer must immediately inform the cantonal VET office, the VET school and the parents of minors. Furthermore, the parties shall take all the necessary steps to ensure continuation of training in another host company. The VET office shall provide support in looking for a new apprenticeship position.

Depending on the circumstances, the host company may be required to pay damages. If the apprentices do not find work, they are normally entitled to unemployment benefits. If the company is declared bankrupt and in certain other cases, the unemployment insurance fund will pay the learner’s salary for the last four months that precede the beginning of the bankruptcy proceedings (insolvency benefits).
